Isaac Update – No Change To Practice Schedule

There is no change to YCF Diving’s practice schedule. All lessons and practice sessions will be held at their normal times despite the heavy rains from Isaac. See everyone at the Aquatic Center!

In House Meet – September 8th

We would like to welcome all our new divers to the YCF diving family! We look forward to getting to know each of you and watching you grow in your diving careers.  The YCF coaches hold in house diving meets throughout the year for all of our divers to get to know one other and practice their dives in a meet setting.  The in house meets are held on Saturdays and are open to all divers with no added fee.  All the divers are placed in a team with divers from different skill levels.  This is a great way for all the divers to get to know one another as well as perform dives and cheer on their teammates.

I have scheduled our next in house diving meet for Saturday, Septemeber 8th from 10-12.  I would like all divers to arrive by 9:30 to warm up and get into your teams.  Following the meet, we will be having a pizza party for divers!  Parents are welcomed to come, watch and cheer on their divers.  It really is a fun morning so please plan on attending.

Justin Dumais

Justin Dumais Wins National Championship

Justin DumaisFor the last 12 years or so, the leader boards of USA Diving have had a Dumais atop them. 2012 is a little different because we saw not one but THREE Dumais’s (Ventura, CA natives) in Title positions at this year’s AT&T National Diving Championships held August 14-19th at The Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC.

Troy Dumais (Austin, TX) won his 36th career national title (surpassing Greg Louganis) with a win on 3-meter Saturday after not practicing since his Bronze medal winning performance in London just weeks earlier. There he medaled in the Men’s 3M Synchro event with partner, Kristian Ipsen. YCF Diving’s own, Justin Dumais (Orlando, FL) alongside younger brother Dwight Dumais (Austin, TX), won their own National Titles in Men’s 3M Synchro. This win comes on the heels of an impressive 3rd place finish for the pair at the Olympic Trials held this summer in Federal Way, Washington.

Justin showed that even after a prolonged absence from the sport, with training , dedication, and perseverance — great things are possible!  Justin took six years off to be an F-16 fighter pilot in the S.C. Guard, where he still maintains active status with the Guard Reserves.  Check out the AT&T National’s recap by Sports Illustrated and a few shots of Coach Mark with Justin and Troy from their days diving together.

Lessons Makeup Policy

If a diver is not able to make their regularly scheduled lesson class please contact Coach K immediately to reschedule.

All of the lessons classes are currently at capacity so we have opened up a make-up lesson on Friday’s from 6:30-7:30pm. This is open to any lessons diver, from any group, who may have missed a class during the week. You must first reserve your spot for the Friday make-up lesson you intend to participate in, each session is limited to 10 divers.

You will have until the end of each month of the absence to make-up a missed lesson or you’ll lose it. If the absence is in the final week of the month you will have the next 2 consecutive Friday’s to make-up, or lose it.

We have lots of new faces this fall, so be sure to introduce yourselves to one another and welcome them to the YCF Diving Family!

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and continued support of the YCF Diving Team!

YCF Diving Season Recap

Hi everyone!

What a great way to end the 2012 season!  YCF divers performed great at age group and JO nationals having our highest finish ever at 5th place!  On the girls’ side we finished 3rd overall.  The meets were highlighted by several stellar performances.  At age group nationals, Rileigh Herr finished second place in 12-13 1 meter and Alex Rosewicz also was a finalist in 11-under 1 and 3 meter events.  Tyler Aycock and Gionvanni Villuneva also had strong perfomances.  More great performances were turned in by YCF at the JO National competition especially Wally Layland adding another national championship by winning the 16-18 girls 3 meter.  She also placed 3rd on the platform event and was a finalist on 1 meter.  Grace Cable and Grayson Kim both were finalist in all 3 events in their respective age groups.  Mya Kreager shined in her first year in 14-15 finaling on 1 and 3 meter events.  Maggie Merrimen also had a great meet by being a finalist in the 12-13 3m and platform.  Congratulations to our first time JO National quaifiers Jack Dowd and Alexander Rosewicz as well as the rest of the team: Emma Kreager, Abby Howell, Rileigh Knox, and Joey Dowd.

I want to thank everyone from the divers to the parents for your commitment and support to our program.   I appreciate all the hard work that our parents and divers put in.  I also want to thank our coaching staff, Bryan and Coach K, for their hard work and for challenging our divers to do their best.  We will continue to work hard and strive towards that #1 spot!

I also wanted to highlight the outstanding job by our USA Olympic diving team! We earned the most medals we have since 1988 including the gold medal by David Boudia!  This team has solidified the comeback of USA diving as a top contender in the world.  Our divers are the future of USA diving and we hope to continue the winning tradition.  We will work tirelessly to continue to produce world class divers from YCF diving.

YCF Diving Takes 5th at USA Diving 2012 Junior National Championships

USA Diving Junior Nationals 2012 - YCF Diving National TeamGreensboro, NC – August 10, 2012

Orlando’s own YCF Diving placed 5th in the Overall Team competition at USA Diving’s Junior National Championships this past week in Greensboro, NC.  YCF Diving qualified 12 divers to compete across 15 different events, but the team was led by an amazing competition from Wallace Layland.

At just 16 years old, “Wally” captured the National Championship in the 16-18 Girls 3 Meter competition, backing it up with a 3rd place in the 16-18 Girls Platform and a 9th place finish in the 16-18 Girls 1 Meter.  It was simply a remarkable all around diving performance.

Also impressive was Grayson Kim placing 3rd in the 11 & Under Girls 1 Meter.  Grayson followed that with a 5th place in the 11 & Under Girls 3 Meter and an 8th place in the 11 & Under Girls Platform.

YCF Divers posted a number of other top 10 performances at the Junior National Championships.  Grace Cable of Winter Park shined in all 3 of her events taking 4th in both the 12-13 Girls 1 Meter and the 12-13 Girls Platform.  Grace also placed 10th in the 12-13 Girls 3 Meter.

Mya Kraeger captured 4th place in the 14-15 Girls 1 Meter competition and placed 9th in the 14-15 Girls 3 Meter.  Maggie Merriman also took 5th in the 12-13 Girls Platform.

All of the divers who participated in Junior Nationals contributed to YCF Diving’s strong team performance.  Congratulations to everyone who competed!

Junior National Practice Schedule

For those of you going to JO Nationals, we will only have one practice on Saturday from 12:30-2pm.   I will like everyone to arrive early at 11:30am to check in and get ready for practice.  This will be the only workout of the day so we need to get the most out of it.

The boards will be closing at 3:30pm for the day’s events which include 11 under girls 1m.  I would like the entire team to be there to watch YCF compete in the event.

Unfortunately this meet is jam packed therefore we will have to have our team meeting on Saturday at 2pm following our practice at the pool.
Lets have a great meet! Good luck YCF!!!
